Forest Aesthetic Kendall Fleet Elements of Ceramics Class of 2023
Artist Statement
This year was my first year doing really anything with clay, and for my project, my main theme was a forest theme. I came up with this during our first few weeks of learning hand-building techniques when I had created a mushroom. I wanted to keep my piece with my actual showcase (which unfortunately, my hand-building skills are not quite as good as my wheel-throwing), so I decided to keep with a theme that incorporates that piece. I then decided to focus on other forest things, such as frogs, owls, trees, and deer. At first with this theme, I was mainly focusing on basic forms such as plates and bowls. Although later on, I started experimenting with more cylinder shapes while keeping a continuous curve. These resulted in more of a different shape that felt true to the theme. I plan on taking studio workshop later next year!
